Federal Reserve Study Explores Whether More Market Rate Housing Can Help Solve the Affordability Crisis

Attached is a study conducted by the Federal Reserve that seeks to answer the question of whether more housing supply can solve the affordability crisis. The study was published in 2018 and finds that "marginal reductions in supply constraints alone are unlikely to meaningfully reduce rent burdens," with the reason being that "rental rates are more closely determined by the level of amenities in a neighborhood."
